According to the webinar announcement, the rule adopts medical data code sets as HIPAA standards for use in reporting diagnoses and inpatient hospital procedures in health care transactions (ICD-10 final rule). The standards adopted under this final rule will replace the ICD-9-CM code sets, developed nearly 30 years ago, with greatly expanded ICD-10 code sets.

There has been much talk recently about the need for health providers to adopt evidence-based practices. Yet, translating research into practice can often be challenging – and providers need practical strategies to meet this challenge.

This webinar will focus on what it takes to successfully identify, select, implement and sustain evidence-based/evidence-informed practices in real world organizational and community settings. The webinar will use ‘from the field’ examples to illustrate some of the critical questions and decision points:

What are the key elements in selecting an evidence-based/informed practice?

Patrick Kanary is Director of the Center for Innovative Practices at Kent State University. CIP provides technical assistance on evidence-based practices for child/family serving systems. He is also a program reviewer for SAMSHA’s National Registry of Evidence Based Programs and Practices and on the Board of the Georgetown National Technical Assistance Center for Children’s Mental Health. Patrick previously worked as an associate director of a children’s community mental health agency and served as Chief of the Office of Children’s Services, Ohio Department of Mental Health.

Motivational Interviewing (MI) in Action: Integrating MI Across Your Agency

How can an agency integrate MI across all levels of the organization? Join presenters from Bridgeway Rehabilitation Services in Elizabeth, NJ, a grantee of SAMHSA's Projects for Assistance in Transition From Homelessness (PATH) program. Participants will learn how Bridgeway created an implementation plan for teaching, supervising, and supporting MI in community-based services.

Buddy Garfinkle and Nancy Schneeloch will share lessons learned and offer strategies for integrating MI into the daily work of an agency, sustaining the practice, and teaching and supporting MI through staff supervision. They will also discuss how MI affects program outcomes.

What is MI? It is a collaborative, person-centered approach to elicit and strengthen motivation to change. It offers providers a useful framework for being with and interacting with people who are experiencing homelessness or struggling with substance use, mental illness, and traumatic experiences.
